| Award for All Wales | The Big Lottery Fund
is supporting the Creative Steps 2 Recovery project at Ponthafren. The
project is to fund challenging opportunities in art and craft for
people, who have experienced mental heath difficulties, those who are
socially isolated and or excluded. The Project has four strands; art classes, pottery workshops, innovative craft sessions using some recycled materials, as well as an exhibition of the work produced. Participants have been exploring a number of ways to express themselves through art, under the watchful eye of local artist Brian Jones. Many participants, who have never painted before, have now discovered a talent that they previously never knew existed. The impact that this has had on their confidence and self esteem has been absolutely amazing. The group now has two exhibitions booked for late 2010, so watch this space. |

co-ordinator, which is vital post for the innovative work and smooth
running of the

| Powys
Mental Health
Alliance - Start up Grants |
Ponthafren has received a number of Start-up grants to help
members to be involved with Social Enterprise activities. The
Public
Relations Group is an offshoot of the computer classes.
Members have designed leaflets, posters, PowerPoint presentations
etc. They, together with the Arty Crafters,
have put on various displays and presentations to groups,
followed by a hands-on craft session. Another group to benefit from this funding is the woodwork and woodturners who used the money to purchase a lathe. Wonderful wooden bowls, light pulls, animal feeders and boxes and mushrooms have been produced by members and are sold at table-top and Christmas Stalls. All monies produced are ploughed back into the centre to purchase new tools and equipment. Other grants have been used for the mosaic project and towards the repair of the pottery kiln. Classes will take place in the near future. |

secure a grant to cover this post so that the amazing achievements of
